SCATTERING OF 344SMeV “*C IONS ON “B, ‘*C, *‘Al, %Ni, wZr AND lwAu NUCLEI

A survey of the elastic scattering of *‘C ions at 344.5 MeV has been made by measuring angular distributions for targets of “B, “C, *‘Ai, ‘sNi, “Zr and 19’Au nuclei. The data were analyzed using two versions of the opticaf model: (a) a potential with Woods-Saxon form for both the real and imaginary part, (b) a folded potential for the real part based on the densityand energydependent DDM3Y interaction supplemented by an imaginary potential of Woods-Saxon form. Except for 27A1, the elastic data are consistent with the scattering from the folded potential without any need for renormalization. Data were also obtained for 12C+ “C exciting the 4.44 MeV 2: state. Coupled-channels analysis implied a potential deformation length of -1.15 fm for this transition.
